Delaware's House of Representatives passed a bill Friday that will grant same-sex couples access to civil unions; the state senate passed the same bill a week ago. Though the governor has yet to sign the bill into law, he seems *knock on wood* intent on doing so.

Hurrah for Delaware!

BREAKING NON-CAT RELATED NEWS:

The Department of Justice just issued a statement from President Obama stating that they will no longer litigate suits challenging the Defense of Marriage Act on the grounds that they believe Section 3 of the Act limiting marriage to heterosexual couples is unconstitutional. Namely, they concluded that the court should consider sexual orientation a suspect class and any laws abridging LGB rights should be considered under heightened scrutiny. Furthermore, they concluded that, while there may be "professionally responsible" arguments supporting the law, there are none the that the DoJ and the Attorney General consider reasonable.

Unbelievable! Or, at the very least, unexpected!

Iowa Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal on why he will not allow the marriage rights of gay Iowans to a popular vote. Pretty powerful stuff:

In theory, I adore this shirt. It was the delight of my Christmas break to marry a man during our family game of Life.

That being said, I hate BustedTees. The images on their shirts are obtrusively bright and lacquered-looking; it's like wearing a massive Trapper Keeper sticker on your chest.

So, I summarize: love the idea, hate the execution.

In today's romantic news, this gentlemen ordered look-alike puppets of both him and his girlfriend, convinced a local theater to stick this into the theater previews, and proposed to her in this most nerdy and fantastic of fashions. The sound you are hearing is the strumming of your heartstrings.
