A high court in Britain recently upheld a ruling by a city council that had said the Christian couple were unlikely to be given any future foster children because of the pair's stated refusal to teach their children that a homosexual lifestyle was acceptable.
I personally find this troubling; as much as I vigorously disagree with the couple's viewpoint, I certainly support their right to have it. Just as easily could prospective LGBT couples be barred from foster parenting.
I also have no productive legal analysis here: such a council ruling could not occur in the United States as such as it would clearly violate the first amendment, and violate it in a multiple ways. Makes me wonder what fundamental rights there are in Britain, if a ruling can come out this way. A bit scary, to be honest.

Ok, this is an invention of my own: I loathe this commercial, but tell me exactly what kind of show they mumble sing about at approximately 12 seconds.
Hint: It's supposed to be ankle, but it's not.

gaga, monsters, video 12:14 PM | 0 comments
Not particularly enthralled with the new Gaga video. For anyone who's seen Janelle Monae in concert, Monae's 57821 schtick is almost identical to Gaga's monster theme (though Monae is an android), and she did it four years ago.
Also, Gaga miming jacking-off at 5:38 is a little much.

Ho shit! My favorite song by my favorite band has finally been uploaded onto Youtube! Instant Slam-Jam-Whatever-the-fuck-I've-been-calling-that-thing-on-the-right of the YEAR all over your face!
Locksley, you truly are kings among men. And by men, I mean me and the rest of your pre-teen ladyfans.
PS. The song is actually called "Love You Too", not "I Love You Too." Jesus Christ, youtube, catch the fuck up.
PPS. Probably shouldn't be posting swear-laden blog posts from work. Of course, I probably shouldn't be doing a lot of things that I do on a daily basis. Example: using store brand conditioner to wash my entire body. Life choices.

In case you are out of the pop culture loop, Charlie Sheen's radio antics yesterday (namely vicious lashing out at his show's creator and producer, Chuck Lorre) led to Lorre canceling Two & a Half Men for at least the remainder of this season.
"And the people of the valley shouted and danced with joy, for this was the day that they were truly free."

I love that I live in a world where I can get an e-mail entitled "ChickAss?!?!" from the sister of my old adjunct professor, and my brain's all, "Yes, this is normal."

colbert, creepy, internet, politics, video 9:39 AM | 0 comments
Last night, while Stephen Colbert interviewed Glenn Greenwald about Anonymous "rival" (whatever that means) HBGary, a Guy Fawkes mask was quickly superimposed over Colbert's face, then removed. The interwebs are abuzz with rumors that it was an Anonymous hack that put the image there.
Cue me being insanely creeped out. This is some Sandra Bullock The Net shit.
Check out a picture of the moment at left, and a (very, very short) video of the moment below. Watch it now before Viacom calls copyright and it vanishes.
PS. You'll notice that the video is incredibly slowed down, and that the superimposed image is still only a short flash. This lends some credence to the suggestion that it wasn't merely a Colbert spoof on the situation (especially since he never makes reference to it occurring).

Imagine my excitement to discover today that AGD Interactive has come out with a graphical reboot of King's Quest III: To Heir is Human! Download it for free here.
PS. AGD Interactive has reboots for King's Quest I and II here as well.

This picture reminds me a poster I had up in my sophomore year common room of an Australian Silky Terrier. She had a pink tiara and a scepter, and there was a banner that read Sassy Princess across the bottom. I believe we called it Sassy Pants McCallister until a drunken roommate ruined the poster by dousing it with our house cocktail, vodka & water.
In retrospect, I was (and still am) so very, very gay.
