Interesting Article of the Day: Gothamist has a great post about the machine they use to bore holes to make subway tunnels. The thing is GIGANTIC. It would also make a fantastic Final Fantasy dungeon boss.
The sighting of this thing also means the MTA might be near starting on the 2nd Avenue Subway line. I would've loved such a line when I lived in the East Village, which is relatively subway deficient.
