The only way a man would be chasing around emo trash like Avril Lavigne is if he were looking for a price check at Target.

"The advice I like to give young artists, or really anybody who’ll listen to me, is not to wait around for inspiration. Inspiration is for amateurs; the rest of us just show up and get to work. If you wait around for the clouds to part and a bolt of lightning to strike you in the brain, you are not going to make an awful lot of work. All the best ideas come out of the process; they come out of the work itself. Things occur to you. If you’re sitting around trying to dream up a great art idea, you can sit there a long time before anything happens. But if you just get to work, something will occur to you and something else will occur to you and something else that you reject will push you in another direction. Inspiration is absolutely unnecessary and somehow deceptive. You feel like you need this great idea before you can get down to work, and I find that’s almost never the case."

I am often reminded of this song before brunches with the gays, and feel a little social guilt.

P.S. If you can't tell, I adore Elaine Stritch

In theory, I adore this shirt. It was the delight of my Christmas break to marry a man during our family game of Life.

That being said, I hate BustedTees. The images on their shirts are obtrusively bright and lacquered-looking; it's like wearing a massive Trapper Keeper sticker on your chest.

So, I summarize: love the idea, hate the execution.

"I love people. Everybody. I love them, I think, as a stamp collector loves his collection. Every story, every incident, every bit of conversation is raw material for me. My love’s not impersonal yet not wholly subjective either. I would like to be everyone, a cripple, a dying man, a whore, and then come back to write about my thoughts, my emotions, as that person. But I am not omniscient. I have to live my life, and it is the only one I’ll ever have. And you cannot regard your own life with objective curiosity all the time…"
